A brighter Penygraig

Despite battling health and disability, Lynne Hamer from Penygraig in Llanelli is a major motivator for Homewatch Tenants. Residents Association Penygraig. The group are active participants in both the Pride In Our Communities, and Coastline Projects.

Having previously organised a number of litter picks for the young people of the area Lynne jumped at the chance of doing something more challenging and th group did their first fly-tipping clean up in June 2005. They cleared nearly a tonne of rubbish from a lay-by in Bynea and were thrilled to learn that the site is home to Britain's most endangered mammal, the water vole. This was followed by a beach clean at Llanelli's North Dock beach on a sunny October Saturday and a waste amnesty in Penygraig during February 2006, where 4 tonnes of rubbish was collected.

Lynne now has plans for the group to begin a mega fly-tipping clean up on a piece of land near Penygraig so that the field can then be used as a community area with room for large events such as carnivals and fete's.
