MND - Association Visitors

There are around 250 people in Wales living with MND. This fatal disease robs people of the ability to walk and talk.  With no cure, most die with 18 months of diagnosis.

Volunteers are vital to the MND Association.  By getting involved, they can help brighten the lives of people devastated by this terrible disease.

In Wales, over 100 volunteers currently dedicate much-valued time to the cause.  Some of these volunteers have chosen to undergo the charity’s award-winning training programme to become Association Visitors (AVs).  AVs provide friendship, advice and support for people with MND and their families, both on the phone or face-to-face.

Heulwen and Ieuan Jones from Caerphilly have benefited from having an Association Visitor for around 18 months. Ieuan was diagnosed with MND in 2002.

Heulwen said: "We cannot praise MND Association Visitors enough.  They have made such a difference to our lives.

"Our Association Visitor truly understands how we feel and what we’re going through.  He is sensitive, understanding and sees beyond Ieuan’s illness, which means we can talk about normal things. I can’t quite describe how refreshing that is."
