Volunteers needed to train to advise clients in Powys CAB advice centres in Newtown and Ystradgynlais on a range of issues.
Volunteers needed to train as advisers in Newtown & Ystradgynlais Citizens Advice Bureaus - to help people with their problems, such as debt, benefits and employment issues using our information sheets. Aspects of the role include interviewing clients, giving practical advice, writing letters and making telephone calls. Full training will be given, with ongoing support. Long term advisers can develop skills in many areas or specialise through ongoing training and experience. This work is interesting, vital to to the local community and has benefits to the volunteer's career prospects.
Powys CAB is part of the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux which give free, independent advice and information to people on their rights and responsibilities to do with e.g. debt, housing, consumer problems, benefits, employment and more. Each bureau is funded and managed as an independent charity. Powys CAB has offices in Newtown, Machynlleth, Brecon and Ystradgynlais and delivers advice across Powys via a 4 day powys-wide telephone line, plus drop-in, appointment and outreach services around the county. Powys CAB has ongoing opportunities for volunteers (mainly in Newtown or Ystradgynlais )to fulfill various roles which help in the running of the bureau (see other categories). We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, indeed a diverse workforce reflects the bureau's aims and principles of equality.
The role requires about 2 days per week input especially during the initial training period, but flexibility is allowed for (school hols etc) Challenging and rewarding ! Expenses are paid - you dont have to live nearby!
Times available for voluntary work
