CAVO has been given £8,800 to give out to youth led projects in Ceredigion through a Youth Led Grant Scheme. The aim of the grants scheme is to support a range of small volunteering projects and activities identified, led and carried out by young people aged 16-25 in Ceredigion.

In order for the Grant Scheme to be truly Youth Led, the panel of people who assess the grant applications are all young people aged 16-25. These young people get training from the Youth Volunteer Adviser in decision making skills, budgeting skills and how to work as part of a team - the training is done when all the panel members first meet, this takes approx half a day. This year's team building training will take place on Sat 6th August near Aberaeron.

Once applications for the grant scheme are submitted (submission deadline is 19th July 2011) the Youth Volunteer Adviser sends the panel members a summary of the applications either by post or email so that they can read through them before the panel next meets.

The panel then meets at a central location in the county for the second time to discuss and debate who should get a grant based on the applications (this will happen the week after the training). The panel will come to a decision on who is successful by the end of that panel meeting. The Youth Volunteering Adviser will provide administrational support to the panel members in order to prepare and send out responses to all the youth projects/groups that have applied for a grant.

The panel members get to visit all the projects that they have funded later in the year so that they can see how the money has been used and how their decisions have helped other young people and communities.
