Disability Powys is looking to recruit new and addition Board members who can help direct Disabilty Powys towards achieving its mission and ensure the organisation is effectively managed.
You would need to be able to make a commitment to Disability Powys and devote the necessary time; have strategic vision; independent judgement ; an ability to think creatively and a willingness to speak your mind; the ability and willingness to travel to meetings and a willingness to be part of appropriate Board sub committees.
Disability Powys aims to be influential in making changes in society that have a positive impact on the lives of disabled people.
In Particular it aims to:-
r Raise awareness and understanding of the barriers to inclusion that face disabled people.
r Reduce inequality in society for disabled people.
r Empower disabled people to take control of their lives and to fulfil potential and ability
r Increase our knowledge and understanding of the requirements of disabled people through methods of listening, consulting and involving.
r Improve access to the built environment and access to services for disabled people.
To achieve its aims Disability Powys undertakes the following activities:
r Provide the independent and impartial information, advice and advocacy to disabled people on all aspects of disabled living and social inclusion
r Provides quality training on all aspect of disability, equality and diversity
r Provides support to disabled people through a range of personal development training
r Acts as a consultative and lobbying body to develop policies which improve the daily lives of disabled people.
r Works in partnership with all agencies to improve services for disabled people in Powys
r Operates a network of groups which represent the interests of disabled in Powys and makes links with other equality and diversity groups further a field
r Collates data and evidence to inform local and national policy and strategic developments.
