St John Cymru Wales is well known as a provider of both First Aid cover and training throughout the country. The First Aid cover that is provided across Wales at various events is carried out by our thousands of volunteers. Our members are arranged into three separate groups – the Badgers, the Cadets and Adults. Members of St John not only take part in First Aid work, there are also opportunities for people to get involved with PR, fundraising, admin support and youth work. 5 – 10 year olds Our Badgers Setts are designed for younger children to learn a variety of skills, make friends and most importantly, to have fun. 10 – 18 year olds Our Cadet groups are specifically tailored to the needs of older children and young adults. Cadets offers the opportunity to learn new skills and once over the age of 14yrs members are able to provide supervised First Aid cover at public events. Cadets also have the opportunity to take part in schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Amalfi Challenge. Over 18 years old Our adult members have the opportunity to gain extensive First Aid qualifications which equip individuals with the necessary skills to provide First Aid cover at public events. Other opportunities involve ambulance driving, youth work or becoming a qualified trainer. Alternatively you could join as a Fellowship member which means that you could run a youth group, get involved with the finances of a division or take over the administration of a group.

Fellowship

For those who wish to volunteer with St John Wales but do not want to work as a First Aider, being a Fellowship membership offers the perfect solution. As a Fellowship member you are still involved with St John Wales, however, instead of providing First Aid cover you will be able to work in sectors such as youth work or fundraising, become a treasurer or PR officer, utilising the skills you may already possess, wish to develop or would like to learn.

Opportunities for Fellowship Members

Treasurers and Administrators Many divisions seek the help of those who are already skilled in financial or administrative processes. This work usually carried out as and when, not requiring an individual to commit to set hours every week. It allows people to use the skills that they already possess in order to support the charity.

Fundraising A Fellowship member can raise money for the division or region by organising and managing a charity event. This could be something such as a sponsored walk, wine tasting session, or even a concert. Events such as these raise money which can then be used to buy much needed supplies and materials for their local group or region.

Committees Fellowship members can also be involved with committees such as the Events Committee, Fellowship Committee, Youth Committee or HR Committee.
